Karly: I love the Radish because of the home-like feel, maybe that’s because it’s in an old house that was remodeled into a restaurant. I grew up going to the Radish, and I believe it to be a hidden gem in local eats around Des Moines. I have tried many things on the Radish menu, but their menu is always changing so I am always excited to go in and try something new. On this night, Andrew and I decided to really treat ourselves. We devoured the complimentary bread. This bread is light and delicious. We then decided to order an appetizer of  mozzarella sticks, which were heavenly. I decided on a pasta for my meal. I got the sun-dried tomato pesto and it did not disappoint. What I will say about this pasta is you should go into your Radish experience with an empty stomach because this meal will fill you. After we finished our pasta, we decided we would round out our meal with dessert. We got the cheesecake, which was average. I was not overwhelmed. Overall, the experience of the Radish was average.

Andrew: While this was not the first time I have been to the Radish, I keep hoping that it will be a new experience every time that I go there. This was not the case. While the service is always satisfactory, this restaurant really mistakes “home-town cooking” with average, watered-down, and frankly tasteless food. We started off by devouring the complimentary bread, which is kind of hard to mess up. We then ordered an appetizer of mozzarella sticks which were new to the menu. They were okay, but way too oversized. They were more like mozzarella bricks, and it was slightly overwhelming. For my main course, I had the spinach and cheese tortellini. The plating was sloppy, the taste was underwhelming, and the texture was oily. We finished with the cheesecake, which tasted store-bought. At least they combat this overall average experience with a very nice wait staff and great service.
