Fall Fun

Natalia Scales, Staff Writer

The fall season has arrived, the temperature is dropping, and there are lots of fun things you can do. Now, people are probably thinking they can’t do anything with this pandemic going on. I am here to show you a few things you can do this season and how to stay safe overall when doing them.

One fun thing you can do is go thrift shopping with your friends. Fall is the time where you pull out your vintage baggy clothes and rock them with style. Thrift shopping is always fun with friends finding cute outfits that you can’t find anywhere else. Some thrift stores that are fun to shop at are Goodwill, Encore Thrift, DAV Thrift, and many more around the Des Moines area.

“I love thrift shopping with my friends because we pick out each other’s outfits sometimes, and find funny shirts that I always buy there,” Ava Taiber (12) said.

Another fun thing to do that is very fitting with the fall season is to go to the pumpkin patch with family or friends. It is fun to see all the pumpkins and pick out your favorite one to decorate later. There are plenty of things to do at the pumpkin patch like corn mazes or even see some animals! Many love to take cute pictures while at the pumpkin patch to keep for great memories they will always have.

“I enjoy going to the pumpkin patch to take cute pictures with my friends and sometimes even post them later on,” Mila Alessio (12) said.

After going to the pumpkin patch, you have to carve your pumpkins with family and friends. The fun rush you get sticking your hand into the gooey pumpkin to prepare your pumpkin is one of the most fall things there is. You really get into the fall feeling when you get to carve and put your own design on your pumpkin. You can also make fun fall foods and drinks with your family and friends to enjoy this time of year!

“I love to get together with my friends and get coffees and carve our pumpkins we picked out! It really gets me in the fall vibes,” Lizzie Johnson (12) said.

Now, all of this sounds fun but we do have to remember how to stay safe while doing these fun things. With the pandemic going on there are 3 main things you can do to stay safe while out and around friends. First, is to always make sure you are wearing a mask that covers both your nose and mouth. Second, is to try to stay as close to six feet apart as possible, or what people call socially distancing yourselves from others. Lastly, always make sure you are reapplying hand sanitizer and washing your hands frequently! If you do these things you can enjoy your fall activities and stay safe at the same time!
