Is Pumpkin Overrated?

Pumpkin is an iconic flavor of fall, but is it worth all the hype?

For most of my life, I thought that the pumpkin spice was completely overrated and wasn’t worth the hype. After trying a few drinks this season, I began to question my original thoughts.

Over the weekend my sister got a pumpkin spice coffee while we were out and asked me to try it. Since I’ve always thought pumpkin was gross, I initially said no, but later on that changed because I needed caffeine. When I tried this coffee I was pleasantly surprised. The pumpkin spice wasn’t as strong as I believed it would be, and I was shocked.

The iconic Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew

After having this experience, I decided to test out the new idea that pumpkin spice is good. So I went to starbucks and tried the famous Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, and my view has completely changed. I was originally worried because I didn’t think I would like it, but I was sorely mistaken. It was great, the perfect mix of coffee and sweetness with a little bit of flavor, but it was definitely not overpowering.

Other people have sworn by pumpkin spice for most of their lives and can’t wait for their favorite coffees to come back. One of those people is Natalie Thomas (11).

“I’ve liked pumpkin spice since I can remember,” Thomas said. “I think it was Bethany Mota who recommended it on her Youtube channel and I’ve been hooked ever since.”

But some are still not the biggest fans of pumpkin flavored things like Becca Youngers (11)

“I think that I say I like pumpkin flavored things more than I actually do,” Youngers said.

So does pumpkin deserve the hype? I think that it is good in certain drinks or snacks but too much of  anything can be bad. Pumpkin flavoring is an iconic part of fall, but it is a it overdone and talked about way too much for how it really tastes.
