The school year is officially in full swing, and the hallways are filled with excitement. Whether you’re just beginning your high school journey or getting ready to come to an end, there’s a lot to look forward to this year.

For freshmen, high school feels like a different world. When asked what they’re most excited for, the answer was clear: sports and school spirit. “I can’t wait to go to the football games,” Grant said, “the student section seems energetic.”

Others agreed, with football games mentioned twice, along with volleyball games, and joining clubs and teams. “I’m ready for track season to start,” another freshman exclaimed. Sports seem to be the focus of this year.

Seniors, on the other hand, have a different perspective of this year. For many, this is their last chance to make high school memories, also, keeping in mind planning the future. “I’m excited about picking colleges,” Avery said, “it’s a big decision, but it’s exciting to think about.”

Some are focusing on future plans, while others are focusing on making the most of this year. “Senior activities, like senior sunrise and overalls are fun,” Mary explained. Senior privileges are important to Dowling because they are traditions that have held up over the years.

Although it’s nearing an end, football games are a highlight for many seniors. It’s easy to tell how excited many seniors are every game, bringing school spirit through each theme. “Football games are something I look forward to each week,” Amelia, a student section leader, elaborated, “we try to encourage going all out for the theme and spirit.”

Whether it’s freshmen cheering at their first game, or seniors celebrating their last, one thing is obvious: school spirit and sports is a focus point for students. With packed football stands, spirited events, and milestones ahead, this year will be full of moments to never forget.
